With the 2023 Pride season rapidly approaching, I wanted to take a moment and help us all get on the same page when it comes to the vocabulary used in LGBT+ spaces! And to really point out to everyone that LDW Group is and always has been incredibly diverse and inclusive, especially to trans and non-binary folks. Even if you don’t personally use these words to describe your own lived experiences, it’s useful to know them so that when someone you know or love uses these phrases, you’ll know what they’re talking about! Let’s talk about sexuality, gender, and the ways that phone sex can help you explore your own identity!
Diving right in, let’s talk about the Split Attraction Model
Arising from the fine folks in the forums at the Asexuality Visibility and Education Network, the Split Attraction Model separates sexual attraction from romantic attraction. This is very useful for many of the folks who call us for phone sex who are confused or bewildered by their own desires. You see, if you look at what you desire sexually as being different from what you desire in terms of romance, things become much clearer! A man can be happily married to a woman (that’s the romance part, the relationship and emotional intimacy), yet want to suck cock and be fucked by men (that’s the sexual part). The split attraction model when applied to a lot of the fetishes and kinks that get talked about in our sessions can make things snap into focus. You’re not weird or broken because you want to kneel down and suck dick, and then go home to your wife. You are instead, bisexual and heteroromantic.
How about another set of pairs, Trans and Cis?
If you’ve ever made use of our services to talk about a sissification fantasy, crossdressing, or any sort of feminization roleplay, you probably have a good grasp on how gender is a performance. A person who is Cis is a person who was raised as one gender, and they feel perfectly ok with that gender and the activities associated with it, and have no need to change that gender presentation. A person who is Trans does feel like changing their gender presentation. Keep in mind that in the modern understanding of gender, what’s between your legs is not your gender! That’s your sexual organs, used in sex and procreation sometimes, and has nothing to do with how you act. A person with a penis can be a nurse or waitstaff in a restaurant, an airline steward, a cook, or even the primary caretaker for the household! A person with a vagina can be a lawyer or surgeon, auto mechanic, or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. The bits of anatomy are not the same as how you act, carry yourself, or even how you think of yourself inside your head. Your gender is the way you act and how you think of yourself.
For people who engage in the sissy fetish, they may or may not be trans! Same with folks who do drag. But all these people most definitely are engaging in gender as a performance. They’re changing up the performance to explore something in themselves, to make a statement, to discover more about themselves, and because it’s fun to get all dressed up. Not all drag performers and sissies are trans, but some are. Not all women who wear pants in public are engaging in drag or a performance of masculinity, but some definitely are! Gender is a performance that you put on, often for an audience; your audience may be just yourself, might be the Mistress you call to show off for, or could be your entire world!
All these binaries, can we ever escape?! Thanks to pronouns, we can!
Of course, we can; welcome to the world of the non-binary. Some people look at these dichotomies and say ‘meh.’ Non-binary people are neither man nor woman, choosing to reject the labels entirely and go off at an angle into the wild unknown. These folks are the ones that use ‘they/them/theirs’ instead of ‘he/his’ or ‘she/hers’. Some people prefer neopronouns, those wild and wacky folks who use ‘ze/zir’ for example. When you encounter folks who use words to describe themselves in ways that make you go ‘bwuh?’ the best thing you can do is make an honest effort to remember how they’d like to be referred to and then, do that.
Speaking of pronouns: did you know that when you call LDW Group you can ask your dispatcher to change the pronouns we use for you? They’ll make a note in your entry in the database and going forward when you call and tell them your name, they’ll use the pronouns that make you happiest. This means if your billing name seems to indicate one gender, but you’d prefer to be called with the pronouns of another, we can make that happen. And, we’ve offered this little perk to our clients for years.
